On Saturday (2nd
of May) past Banbridge Rangers welcomed the arrival
of Glenavon to their Mini Soccer centre which was switched
to the Tech pitch. With many different games and activities
the
session was well attended by both players and parents from
both Clubs. Both sides enjoyed competing in small sided games
with
minimal rules allowing football to be the winner and also taking
part in Penalty shootout competitions and tennis football.
Banbridge Rangers Under 11s finished of the day playing an
11-a-side game
against Glenavon with some entertaining football from both
sides. The Banbridge Rangers Cubs initiative has grown throughout
the
season since its inception in October last year under the stewardship
of George McCallister. There is an open invitation for all
primary school children to attend the sessions that run twice
a week
for most of the year.
The Saturday sessions are all inclusive
small sided games with every player getting more touches of the ball
and therefore gaining more knowledge of the game than playing
11-a-side
matches in a competitive league. From the ages of 4 – 10 the
Cubs Games Development Centre will hopefully be more beneficial
for
the participants long term development and also will encourage
the fun element to football. There is an open invitation to bring
children to either session under the stewardship of George McAllister
(UEFA B License Coach) and Ivan Gray who runs the Fun damentals
training on Monday nights.

| Benefits |
|
• More touches of the ball to increase participation and enjoyment
• Fewer players on the pitch meaning simpler decisions and better understanding
• Smaller pitches’ meaning greater concentration and interest among participants
• More individual success leads to more children playing. In the long term,
this leads to sustained participation levels beyond this age group
